First annual Harrison Tulip Festival coming this spring

Everything’s coming up spring in Agassiz-Harrison.

The inaugural Harrison Tulip Festival is soon to blossom in the Agassiz-Harrison area. Depending on the bloom cycle, residents and visitors alike can expect to see the tulips next month.

This year marks the 18th tulip festival in the Fraser Valley hosted by event founder Kate Onos-Gilbert – who also helms the Harrison Sunflower Festival and the Harrison Pumpkin Festival on her local farm. Onos-Gilbert launched Tulips of the Valley on Seabird Island back in 2006. The festival moved to Chilliwack – appropriately re-dubbed the Chilliwack Tulip Festival – 10 years later. The family of farmers was also behind the Chilliwack Sunflower Festival in 2018.

After acquiring land in Agassiz, the Harrison Sunflower Festival and Pumpkin Festival found their homes where the family first started.

The event promises 10 million tulip, double daffodil and hyacinth bulbs planted over 35 acres of land. The event is set to include 50 varieties of tulips, 15 varieties of daffodil and 12 varieties of hyacinths. A two-acre show garden will feature mature fruit and nut trees, flowered shrubs.

As with the other festivals hosted at the local farm, the event will feature a number of photo opportunities, including sets like swing sets, a 1950s convertible and raised platforms for easy photo staging.

The Onos Farm is located at 5039 Lougheed Hwy. Parking is available off of nearby Cameron Road.
