More than a dozen couples have already registered to say their vows and cut cupcakes at a mountain-top wedding service near Revelstoke this Valentine’s Day.
For the ninth year, and for the cost of a lift ticket, Revelstoke Mountain Resort will carry out dozens of no-cost weddings and vow renewals Friday, Feb. 14, on Mount Mackenzie at the top of Revelation Gondola.
Registered couples will get a time slot between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and enjoy sparkling wine and a cupcake during these moments of nuptial nascence. An officiant will attend to facilitate the service.
“While it’s hard to speak to the inspiration behind the initial event, celebrating love in the mountains is an experience that stays with you forever,” said Laura Meggs, the resort’s communications manager.
Valentine’s Day “brings love, sport and a deep connection to the mountains together, creating the perfect setting for an unforgettable wedding day,” she added.

Though the wedding or vow renewal service and officiant cost nothing, couples may consider other expenses such as travel, lodging and photographers, Meggs said.
As well, those not skiing must buy a sightseeing ticket to attend, while those skiing must buy a lift ticket. The resort says couples must additionally obtain a wedding licence in advance to have a legally binding service at the resort, and must bring two witnesses.
To date, 160 couples have left Mount Mackenzie’s slopes lawfully wedded.
