Rail Trail
The new 7km Rail Trail follows along the south side of the E&N tracks between Coombs and Parksville. Except for the first 200m of the trail in Parksville’s Springwood Park, the Coombs to Parksville Rail Trail is fully accessible. At the Coombs end, the Rail Trail starts across from Station Road and there are a number of spots where you can hop on. At the Parksville end, the Rail Trail begins at the City of Parksville’s Springwood Park on Despard Avenue. The trailhead kiosk is near the dog park parking lot. The Rail Trail is multi-use and no ATVs, dirt bikes, or other motorized vehicles are permitted.
Forest Bathing
Embrace the healing properties of trees, forest plants, ferns, mosses, and lichens. The “Forest Bathing” concept is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, which translates to “taking in the forest atmosphere.” It involves simply walking — quietly, slowly and deliberately — in a forest, and taking in the sounds, scents, colours, forms and general vibe of nature.
Golfing
Take your pick. Care to stroll in a mountain valley, through a coastal Douglas fir ecosystem, or through rustic grassy meadows? With seven courses to choose from, all within a 45-minute drive from one another, the toughest part of your day may be making this decision.
Waterfalls
Explore a lush, forested trail lined with towering Douglas fir, cedar, hemlock, and maple trees at Englishman River Falls Provincial Park. Cross the two bridges and experience nature’s power as stunning waterfalls blast over rocks and descend down into the canyon beneath you. Even more spectacular views await at the picturesque Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park filled with waterfalls, rock cliffs, shaded trails, and swimming holes. Walking trails meander through the park which straddles the river.
