For a look at a bygone era, back when gold ruled with wild west of British Columbia, you need look no further than the tiny town of Hedley, B.C.
The frontier mining town reached its peak in the early 1900s, with two gold mines, a thousand residents and a number of hotels.
Today, the village has just a few hundred inhabitants.
The Mascot Mine, when it’s open, is an amazing, rustic facility, perched atop a massive cliff.
(It was closed to tours in 2017, check this website for its current status.)
Nickel Plate Provincial Park (there was also a Nickel Plate gold mine) is another fascinating area to explore.
Although the park was closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis, you’ll want to check this website for its current status.
No visit to Hedley would be complete without a trip to its museum and tourist booth.
