If it’s the journey that matters, then this is a trip worth taking! In one of the most stunning natural environments, a world of magic is set to unfold before your very eyes in a way that defies imagination.
This immersive, interactive, contemplative, multi-media, collaborative, nighttime experience on the Banff Gondola enables guests to explore the surrounding natural environment in a way they never have before — and see it in a new light.
What magic is this?
Forget what you think you know about the mountain at night, about light, about magic. Bring a sense of wonder and prepare to be amazed, enlightened and transformed.
Montreal’s Moment Factory brings its world-renowned expertise to Banff, bringing together light, music, story, and surroundings to create a world-within-a-world where imagination and reality meld together in Nightrise.
Reach for the stars
The journey begins at the bottom of the mountain, where visitors board the Banff Gondola and stop at four different stations, seeing and experiencing the mountain at night in new ways through new eyes: Cosmic Rays, Diamond Dust, Alpenglow and Frosted Waves suggest the magic that is to unfold.
Music, dance, lights, storytelling and the mountain itself make up the cast of this show, drawing together tradition, technology, and nature.
Discover the history of the Stoney Nakoda Nation as they share their story and their links to the sacred mountain through the footsteps of their ancestors.
Hear the language that is part of the land, and learn a new way of understanding our place in the world through the oral tradition of the people who have lived on and with the land for centuries. “The oral tradition, story-telling, it’s a huge part of who we are — it’s a huge part of keeping our culture alive as we tell others who we are through story,” notes Kirsten Ryder, Training and Development Director, Stoney Nakoda Nation.
This unique art installation is a collaboration between award-winning Montréal-based Moment Factory, the Stoney Nation and Pursuit, who combine to bring the night to life in dreamlike and otherworldly ways. Seeing is believing — in magic!
Tickets are on sale now, and Nightrise opens to the public Dec. 2, 2021 through March 12, 2022.
