Boots on the ground projects
The BCWF is involved in numerous on-the-ground projects aimed at enhancing, protecting and restoring habitats. One of the standout initiatives is the 10,000 Wetlands project, which aims to create thousands of wetland ecosystems in British Columbia using innovative beaver dam analogues.
“We use beaver-based restoration to keep water on the landscape to create habitat and mitigate wildfire and flood risk,” explains Jennifer Rogers, beaver restoration assessment lead. “With First Nations and conservation partners, we will build more than 100 Beaver Dam Analogues that support native plant and animal species, contribute to fire and flood resiliency, and promote healthy watersheds across the province.”

Diverse contributions
Proceeds from the lottery support a wide range of conservation and educational activities. For example, more than 6,000 children and teens participate in wilderness camps and archery classes annually, and volunteers contribute more than 300,000 hours each year to community projects. The BCWF also funds independent scientific research, including the Southern Interior Mule Deer Camera Project and the Southern BC Cougar Project.
Additionally, the BCWF offers Fish Habitat & Riparian Stewardship workshops that provide hands-on training for local stream stewardship. Programs like Fishing Forever and Outdoor Access ensure that everyone can enjoy the outdoors, regardless of mobility. The Women Outdoors programs offer safe, expert instruction to aspiring outdoorswomen.
