One of the most enchanting spots on the West Coast is Delta, B.C.’s George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary.
The sanctuary is nearly 300 hectares in size and about 300 bird species make their way to the sanctuary as they migrate.
Huge amounts of ducks, geese and swans assemble in massive flocks between October and early December.
Spectacular flocks of Snow Geese, sometimes numbering thousands of birds, feed in marches and farmers’ fields around the sanctuary.
Sandhill cranes are at the sanctuary during winter months, as well as a large amount of other bird species.
In the spring, as migration starts, thousands of shorebirds stop by.
