With the holidays just a few days away, students and those working out of province are now preparing to fly back home.
While travelling this time of year can be stressful for many, being prepared will help you avoid travel-related chaos, letting you focus on what really matters – time spent with your family and friends.
Helping you take off with confidence, WestJet airlines’ has prepared an essential list of travel tips in advance of your Christmas flight.
1. Make sure you have all of the documentation required to travel. Requirements can vary depending on whether you are travelling domestically or internationally, so make sure you check with your airline.
- ID must match the name on the ticket.
- Valid government-issued ID is required to board all commercial flights.
- Certain countries may have additional entry requirements, such as visas.
- Review the available services that many airports offer, such as expedited or reserved spots in pre-boarding security screening.
2. With the influx of passengers, airlines may be strictly enforcing baggage limitations. Check with your airline to confirm your flight and verify that your luggage is within the size and weight restrictions for both carry-on and checked baggage.
3. Before your flight: Before leaving for the airport, it’s always a good idea to check the airline to ensure the flight is still on schedule.
- When driving or ridesharing to the airport, give yourself extra time to park, check your baggage and clear security screening.
- If you are travelling with a smart bag or stroller, make sure you remove the battery before check-in or boarding.
- As many bags look the same, add something distinct to make the bag stand out, making it easier to locate your luggage at the baggage carousel. Take photos of checked luggage to help locate your bags if they go missing.
- For security checks, it’s recommended that gifts you’re taking be unwrapped; if you’re taking a wrapped item, it’s best to place it in your checked baggage.
- Keep valuables, medicine and other important items in your carry-on baggage.
- If travelling with a pet, check with your airline first to ensure your animal is allowed on board. Some airlines do not allow pets into the cabin during the holiday season.
