This is the summer of the road trip, and one to try out is the scenic Crowsnest Hwy 3 running east-west between Vancouver and Calgary. Highway 3 traverses Boundary Country and the several quaint communities that make up the region.
Take a day trip or stay for a week or two – it’s a great place to relax, hike an iconic rail trail, explore ghost towns and other historic sites, float along the rivers, pan for gold, or play at a beach on one of Canada’s warmest lakes.
Mountains, valleys, canyons, rivers and lakes all form part of the brilliant landscape. Bring or rent an RV and stay along the way as you explore one of BC’s best-kept secrets.
Trails, Trails & More Trails!
There are over 2,000 km (1,243 mi) of easily accessible, explorable trails in Boundary Country. Hiking, biking, and even meandering are all great means of adventure and each allows you to connect with boundless nature in its own unique way. The region’s trail networks, including iconic rail trails, stretch all the way starting from Big White to Christina Lake.
The Kettle Valley Rail Trail and Trans Canada Trail are the main attractions. Explore tunnels carved into the sides of mountains, immerse yourself in emerald oceans of forest, and even stop for a quick dip or float in the Kettle River if it’s getting too warm out! It’s never a bad idea to hop off the trails to grab a bite at one of the many great eateries littered throughout Boundary. If you’re heading up to Kelowna, be sure to make a detour to Big White for their always-expanding bike park or scenic mountain trails accessible via chairlift.
