Juneau’s Seawalk is now an award-winning experience.
The Seawalk, from the Mayor Bill Overstreet Park to Gold Creek, received an Excellence on the Waterfront Honor Award from the Waterfront Center, a nonprofit that promotes waterfront development.
The award will be presented at an online ceremony Oct. 25, notes a news release from J.A. Brennan Associates, the Seattle landscape architecture firm that worked on Juneau’s Seawalk.
“The Downtown Seawalk provides urban residents and office workers with attractive outdoor recreation, including steps to tidelands and the beach. It also relieves downtown street congestion and creates a higher quality water experience for visitors and residents,” the release says.
Inching closer to final results
Judges for the Waterfront Center recognized the Seawalk as a stunning visual and interpretive experience for Juneau.
Juneau’s seawalk design team included Juneau-based Tetra Tech Alaska and J.A. Brennan Associates, the release said.
