One of Canada’s most famous, and most influential citizens — Daniel Michener — was born in Lacombe Alberta.
A veteran, Rhode scholar, lawyer, politician and diplomat, Michener became governor general of Canada, serving until 1974.
Part of Michener’s legacy is the Michener Award for Journalism, which recognizes exception reporting in the pursuit of public service.
The Michener House Museum and Archives, located in Lacombe, is also the oldest remaining building in Lacombe.
