Troubled Monk brewery in Red Deer, Alberta, has partnered with NWT Brewing Co. to create a one-of-a-kind beverage to support wildfire relief efforts in Northern Canada.
A gin and soda called Northern Neighbour has been infused with ingredients hand-foraged by an indigenous group from Saskatchewan, chosen to represent the natural splendour of the Northwest Territories.
The companies said in a statement that Northern Neighbour is a tribute to the special partnership between Troubled Monk and NWT Brewing Co., emphasizing the support and unity that transcends provincial boundaries.
“The generosity of Albertans has been a welcoming and unwavering support for so many displaced people from Northern Canada,” said Michelle Gowing, operations manager at NWT Brewing Co., located in Yellowknife and the only brewery in the Northwest Territories.
“This partnership with NWT Brewing Co. represents a shared commitment to helping those in need. Northern Neighbour is a symbol of solidarity between neighbours, and we are contributing to wildfire relief efforts through this collaboration,” said Kim Bateman, Troubled Monk operations manager.
In support for affected communities, Red Deer’s Troubled Monk will be donating $1,000 to the NWT United Way to provide essential assistance to those who have been impacted by the wildfires, as they work to rebuild their lives and communities.
Northern Neighbour will be available for a limited time starting Nov. 9, and a portion of the proceeds from its sales will go towards ongoing wildfire relief initiatives.
